Christian Education Major

Introduction

Established in 1981, the Christian Education Major cultivates visionary leaders who integrate theological understanding with educational practice for lifelong Christian learning. Rooted in faith and guided by scholarship, the program equips students to proclaim the Gospel, nurture Christlike character, and design transformative educational experiences for both churches and communities. This major seeks to advance God’s Kingdom by connecting education and social service, cultivating Christian educators who combine intellectual depth with compassionate service.

 

Programs

Church Education Specialist

  • Preparing students for ministry with children, youth, and young adults
  • Preparation for educational ministry planning and curriculum design
  • Certification: Church Education Specialist (Issued by the Institute for Christian Education, MTU)

Religious Teacher and Chaplain

  • Preparing students to teach religion in middle and high schools or alternative school settings
  • Training for school chaplaincy and church–school ministry leadership
  • Pathway: Eligibility for admission to the Graduate School of Education after completing the undergraduate program
  • Network: An active community of MTU religious teachers and chaplains

Lifelong Education Specialist

  • Development of practical competencies in the design and management of lifelong learning programs.
  • Training for careers in lifelong education centers, learning institutes, and church education departments
  • Certification: Level 2 Lifelong Educator (Issued by the National Institute for Lifelong Education)

Social Welfare Specialist

  • Preparing professionals to plan and manage social welfare programs
  • Training for positions in welfare organizations, schools, and public service
  • Equipping future leaders in church-based social welfare ministries
  • Certification: Level 2 Social Worker (Issued by the Korean Association of Social Workers)

Career Pathways

Educational Pastor (Christian Education Ministry Leader)
Graduates who pursue ordination serve as educational pastors in churches, leading ministries for children, youth, and adults through education-centered discipleship.

 

Lay Christian Educator
Non-ordained professionals who plan, organize, and oversee Christian education programs within the church, facilitating faith formation across all age groups.

 

Religious Teacher and School Chaplain
Students who complete the teacher training program in the Graduate School of Education qualify for the Grade Ⅱ Secondary School Teacher Certificate. Many graduates serve at schools such as Ewha Girls’ High School, Paichai High School, and Moon Young Girls’ High School, sharing the Gospel through Christian education.

 

Educational and Social Service Professionals
Graduates holding lifelong educator or social worker certifications serve in lifelong learning centers, social welfare facilities, churches, and Christian organizations such as the YMCA and YWCA.
