감리교신학대학교(METHODIST THEOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY)

				

 
감리교신학대학교 유경동 총장이 지난 19일(화) 미국 UMC 오하이오 연회의 정희수 감독과 Suzanne Allen 감리사, Kelly Brown 감리사, Dom Mejia 목사와 만남을 가졌다. 
 
미국 오하이오 연회는 1885년 스크랜턴 선교사를 조선에 파송한 연회로, 한국 감리교회 역사에서 중요한 역할을 담당한 연회로 알려져 있다. 특별히 감신대 동문인 UMC 오하이오연회 정희수 감독은 감신대와 오하이오 지역 내 대학들 간 긴밀한 협력이 이뤄지도록 든든한 가교 역할을 해오며 한국 감리교와 감신대에 대한 남다른 애정을 드러냈다.
 
유경동 총장과 오하이오 연회 지도자들은 오하이오 연합감리교회 및 오하이오 웨슬리안대학교(OWU)와의 협력 강화에 대해 심도 깊은 논의를 나눴으며, 유경동 총장은 특히 감신대 학생들의 국제적 신학·인문학 역량 증진 및 글로벌화를 위해 학생 교환 프로그램을 추진할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
 
이어 유경동 총장은 “감신대의 학생들이 세계로 나아가는 웨슬리의 후예들이 될 수 있도록 양성할 것이며, 글로벌 네트워크를 지속적으로 확충하여 해외 교환학생 프로그램, 교환 교수 프로그램, 교류 세미나 개설 등 더 많은 경험을 제공할 것.”이라고 뜻을 전했다.

The President of Methodist Theological University, Dr. Kyoung-dong Yoo, met with Bishop Hee-Soo Jung of the UMC Ohio Conference, along with District Superintendents Suzanne Allen and Kelly Brown, and Rev. Dom Mejia on November 19, 2025.

The Ohio Conference, which sent missionary Mary Scranton to Joseon in 1885, is widely recognized for its significant role in the history of Korean Methodism. In particular, Bishop Jung, an alumnus of MTU, has served as a vital bridge connecting MTU with universities and institutions across Ohio, demonstrating deep affection for Korean Methodism and his alma mater.

During the meeting, President Yoo and leaders of the Ohio Conference held in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation with the UMC Ohio Conference and Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU). President Yoo shared plans to launch a student exchange program aimed at enhancing MTU students’ global exposure and academic capacity in theology and the humanities.

President Yoo added, “We will cultivate MTU students to become heirs of Wesley who venture into the world, and we will continue expanding our global networks to offer even broader opportunities, including overseas exchange programs, visiting-scholar exchanges, and joint seminars.”​
